Benson Oil History
Established in Trail in 1946, BA Benson & Son Ltd. began servicing Trail and area with a crew of one, owner/operator Beverly Benson as the local Shell Agent. Bev’s trucking career was lengthy, previously hauling freight between Trail and Nelson for Trail Livery. Located initially on the present-day Teck Trail Operations site near the acid plants, BA Benson & Son Ltd. serviced local Shell retail stations. Additional fuel and lubricant providers at the time included Esso, Gulf, and Chevron.
Further expansion saw the business move to its current site in Rivervale in 1957. Albert Benson Sr. overtook business operations in 1968. Many years of progress followed, as the forestry industry and major infrastructure and construction projects experienced significant growth. As a result, the business absorbed Grand Forks retail servicing and both the Salmo and Nelson bulk sites.
Since 2009, we have operated as an independent supplier of fuel and lubricants, no longer contractually bound to Shell Canada. Albert Benson Jr. now handles the day-to-day operations as company president.
Now into our 3rd generation of family management, and nearing 70 years in business, BA Benson & Son Ltd. is now an independent supplier of diesel, and gasoline, as well as a multi-branded lubricant distributor. We also rent and sell storage tanks and ancillary products for fuel and lubricants. We serve commercial, industrial, residential, municipal, and retail clients throughout the southern interior.
Benson Oil Inc. is our trucking division, and manages all fuel deliveries on behalf of BA Benson & Son and offers third party carrier and site management services to wholesale and retail marketers throughout the region.
A committed supporter of regional needs, Benson Oil is a frequent sponsor of regional events and organizations, including Rossland-Trail Minor Hockey, Kaslo Logger Sports, West Kootenay Sno-Goers, and the Castlegar Rebels.
